Intro
Packaging is critical to your product’s success. If your packaging is not eye-catching, consumers may never notice it on the shelf or choose a different product instead. If the packaging doesn’t properly represent your product, they may buy only to be frustrated by unmet expectations. If its quality doesn’t hold up over time, the package may create a negative experience with your brand, even if the buyer otherwise likes your product.
With so much at stake, a high-quality, customized packaging solution is worth the investment. However, the custom packaging design process can be overwhelming—most products require several layers of packaging, and each layer must be executed well. To make the right choices for your products, work with experts who understand how to support a brand image through practical packaging decisions. E2Global’s DesignWorks process guides clients through a customized six-stage process, ensuring every decision serves the product’s logistical constraints and aesthetic goals.
The DesignWorks process begins with a thorough review of each client’s vision and limitations. Using this information, we develop preliminary design concepts, refining them based on client feedback. Once all parties are satisfied with the design, we move to the engineering phase, where we develop detailed 3D mockups of the proposed packaging. These designs help us build and analyze prototypes of the final design, altering details as necessary to perfect each layer. Prototyping gives clients full confidence that the design will look and perform as they imagine it. Finally, we move into production, leveraging state-of-the-art equipment to manufacture high-quality packaging at any necessary volume.
Design Processes
Here is a detailed look at the six main steps of the custom product packaging design process.
Design
E2Global specializes in primary packaging, which is the packaging that consumers see on the shelf. The first step in designing a custom package is to understand what the client intends to achieve with the custom packaging. After determining the necessary elements of the design, design teams come up with unique options that incorporate those features. This exploration makes up the bulk of the design stage.
Design Approval
At the end of the design phase, teams will narrow several potential designs down to one final choice. There is still room to make changes, and clients will often consider many alternate versions of the same concept before finding the right one. Before approving a design, clients usually solicit feedback from multiple parties, which may result in additional rounds of edits.
Engineering
After clients approve a design, we move into the engineering phase. At this step, we transform the finalized design into a full-featured 3D model of the final package. From there we can see how the packaging functions, add necessary tolerances to dimensions, and adjust the design before investing time and materials into a prototype.
Prototyping
After processing the product design through our computers, we send it out for prototyping. Our prototype is a full-scale model of the package, including all layers. We use this prototype to accurately evaluate the package’s functionality, user-friendliness, and overall appeal. Before passing the prototype along for approval, we perform our own tests to ensure that tolerances are correct and there are no problems with usability.
Prototype Approval
Then we ask clients to evaluate the prototype and ensure that it is 100% to their satisfaction. Using their input alongside our own findings, we’ll make final revisions to optimize the package before approval.
Production
The last step is producing the product. E2Global is a trusted OEM and plastic packaging design company serving a variety of large companies, and our assembly lines can handle any production volume. We rely on our own manufacturing facilities to maintain full control over quality and to deliver products on time.
Products E2Global Can Customize
Before we begin any project, we ensure that our expertise aligns with the project and that the requested packaging makes sense for the product. If not, we can help select the ideal packaging type and materials. We can customize a full range of packaging options, including primary, secondary, and inner layers of:
