Caps and closures have a basic function—to seal or close containers—but they come in a variety of options that are important to understand. Across all industries, quality caps and closures contribute to product safety, freshness, and security. At the same time, they must be easy to open and close.
E2Global is an industry leader in manufacturing caps and closures for a variety of containers and applications. Learn more about our manufacturing methods, different types of caps and closures, and safety seals.
Manufacturing and Molding Methods
E2Global uses a hot runner injection molding system to manufacture plastic caps and closures. This method injects molten liquid plastic directly into mold cavities, where the material takes the shape of the mold. Then the plastic is cured and removed as a finished product. This process reduces gate points and flash, creating precise results with minimal material waste. We automate this molding method to produce living hinge flip-top caps and caps with undercuts without strip molding.
These are some of the benefits of using a hot runner injection molding system to create caps and closures:
- Increased efficiency
- Quick cycle times
- Reduced material waste
- Hot runner reduces overall cost and the number of post-production processes
- By eliminating cold runner scrap you eliminate regrind waste.
Types of Caps and Closures
Caps and closures come in many distinct types, each with a specific purpose. Below are the types of caps and closures we provide at E2Global:
- Ribbed and smooth disc caps
- Ribbed and smooth screw caps
- Ribbed and smooth flip-top caps
- Push/pull caps
- Child-resistant caps
- Flip spout caps
- Twist top caps
- Snap-on cover caps
- Double button disc-top caps
- Turret Caps
- Nozzle caps
- Overcaps (bamboo, metal, plastic)
- Two-component molded caps
- Layered caps
Types of materials we use to manufacture caps and closures include:
- Polyethylene, Polypropylene (PE, PP)
- Styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) / Acrylonitrile styrene (AS)
- Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)
- Polystyrene (PS): for overcaps only
What Makes a Perfect Match Between a Cap/Closure and a Container?
A size match between cap and container doesn’t always guarantee a perfect match. For example, the threading on both components needs to match—otherwise, the container won’t close properly or will allow the product to leak. Testing should be conducted to check whether a certain pairing matches.
Safety Seals
A product’s safety and security are very important, especially if the item is consumable or perishable. A safety seal is a perfect tool to determine if there has been unauthorized tampering with a container. Different forms of safety seals include breakable tamper-evident rings, heat induction seals, and shrink bands.
At E2Global, we primarily make breakable tamper-evident rings that attach to the cap or enclosure. The safety seal is properly matched to the glass or resin to which it is being molded. This ensures no leakages and gives end users the assurance that products are safe and secure.
